Maybe this has turned into a blog about computers? I write about what I know, and this happens to be one of those things.
I just wanted to discuss layout changes on websites to make things "easier" or "more intuitive" but the actual problem is that every time there's a little change, like the "sign out" button on yahoo mail moving from the right hand of the screen to the left, or facebook's numerous daily changes, they should take into consideration the Systems Analysis and Design interface principle of "User Experience".
We'll analyze this picture: (Use of facebook because that is a very likely culprit)

First off, there are numerous changes like the buttons at the top not doing the same thing, but the most recent change is the addition of chat, and then changing it so you can't view all your friends at once. I have numerous friend groups, although I do not know how, I believe this came from when I first got facebook several years ago and decided it'd be funny to add "how I know you" to random people, including sometimes checking the random "we lived together" or "we hooked up" with random friends. But now it makes it so complicated, that I can't find people when I want to.
First, for novice users there should be a "ease of learning" where it's easy to find out what the little green and white oval do. But, since most people are facebook addicts, there should be an "ease of use" principle applied, which obviously they have overlooked. The constant changes are making it harder and harder to figure out what is going on.
Also, they have seemed to not work out all the bugs which is also a problem (as in, they should've completely tested it before rolling it out). I don't know if it's my browser being incompatible but occasionally when I'll click on something on facebook, a run-time error occurs and my entire internet session is closed. Extremely annoying especially in this high-paced society.
Okay, this is my slight rant about topics that I have had to learn about this past semester, and now think you should know a bit about, too.
Enjoy your day!
